Anni Graham is a wedding photographer based out of Northern California. Thanks for taking the time and answering our questions Anni!
1. When and how did you start with Photography?
I was first introduced to it in my high school year book class, and have been pursuing it ever since. I started studying it in college, but knew I only wanted to do photojournalism, so I quit everything and only pursued storytelling. I did a photojournalism course in South Africa which was a huge turning point into taking a hobby and interest into a future career.
2. What inspires you the most?
Traveling. I’ve been obsessed for as long as I can remember. I am completely fascinated with so many places, my list seems too grand to ever conquer. My list mainly consists of incredible landscapes, mountain top views, and cultural experiences that I want to see and document. I quite often get lost in researching and planning every little detail of a trip that I have no current plan to take.
3. What do you like to do, if you are not behind your camera?
Hike. At least once a week, if not more. Ideally every day, but then no one would have their edited photos so… I hold back to once a week.
4. Where was the best location you’ve been so far?
I shot a wedding in the German countryside a few years ago and it was just the most breathtaking place to shoot a wedding ever. It was my first time to Europe so I was just fascinated in general, but the church was insane with one of those massive organs, there were cobble stone streets everywhere, ivy growing all over the doors and walls, and just so many beautiful landscapes it was hard to leave!
5. Which equipment do you use mainly?
I use my Canon 5D Mark iii and 35mm 1.4L for pretty much 90% of everything I shoot.
6. Do you have any tips to direct your couples how to pose?
Do your research, learn about the couple, what they are expecting, how comfortable they feel. Ask for motion filled poses, always give positive feedback, and never tell your couple that something is not working or doesn’t look good (it’s suicide).
7. What is your favorite life quote?
“There is more in us than we know if we could be made to see it; perhaps, for the rest of our lives we will be unwilling to settle for less.” – Kurt Hahn
8. What would you do now, if you hadn’t become a photographer?
Environmental Advocacy, Refugee Aid, Emergency Disaster Relief, or Wilderness Therapy. If I could just do all of them plus photography, that’d be ideal.
THANK YOU ANNI!
