Kathrin & Simon are the faces behind “A tale of two hearts”. Two wedding photographers in love from Germany.
Thanks for taking the time and answering our questions!
1. When and how did you start with Photography?
S: I bought my first DSRL when I was 18 and was fascinated by the technical aspect of photography. So I
experimented with different photography styles, read books, bought online trainings to find out what was possible
with my camera and captured everything from landscapes to flowers.
K: When Simon bought a new camera he gave me his old Sony Alpha to play with. I was never really interested in
the technique, but began to have fun shooting portraits of friends and moments of our lives that I found worth
remembering. Conserving time and meeting people is still what I love the most about photography.
2. What inspires you the most?
Our inspiration usually comes from happiness and peace of mind. First of all that means that there are no urgent
For us, having talks with friends or like-minded people is just as important as being alone and leading
conversations in our heads. Furthermore we find inspiration by exploring new places, having a cup of coffee on
the balcony and most of all being outside.
3. What do you like to do, if you are not behind the camera?
Again: Being in nature. We are both visual people that enjoy beautiful landscapes, especially when we have a
great view from above. That´s why we love hiking, climbing, mountainbiking or snowboarding. Everything that
gets us to the top to get that view. Besides that we enjoy dining or playing games with friends, cinema, Yoga
(Kathrin), programming and wood working (Simon).
4. Where was the best location you’ve been so far?
That´s hard to say. For us the best location is a place that feels like home. Our all time favorites are the Austrian
Alps. Besides that we fell in love with Portugal with its Algarve and Lisbon. A city that feels calm and vivid at the
same time and has lots of beautiful hidden corners to discover.
5. Which equipment do you use mainly?
We are always trying to keep things simple. Most of the time our Canon 6D cameras with 35 and 50 Sigma Art
lenses are enough.
6. Do you have any tips to direct your couples how to pose?
Making them feel comfortable is key. So think of being their friend rather than being a professional vendor and
don´t overpose them. We like to ask personal questions about their relationship to make them concentrated on
each other and oftentimes simply start with letting them cuddle while we take a few steps back. Holding each
other creates a feeling of safety and calms them a bit. It helps a lot, when they are not thinking too much about
When it comes to posing, our approach is: directing as little as possible, but as much as needed.
7. What is your favourite life quote?
There are many nice quotes, but we just try to be loving, understanding humans and live in harmony with our
8. What would you do now, if you hadn‘t become a photographer?
S: Probably a scientist researching the F-Cell to solve the worlds energy problem.
K: I always wanted to become a movie director and dancer. We´ll see what the future holds 🙂
THANK YOU KATHRIN & SIMON!
