Carmen and Ingo are a wedding photographer couple based in Austria. Thanks for taking the time and answering our questions!
1. When and how did you start with Photography?
Both of us were already interested in photography way before we met each other in 2003 and it started to get more serious in 2006 when we shot our first wedding. We always had fun to take pictures, creating new things and experimenting with the camera. Photography was not just a hobby, we were stick to our camera every free minute and our travels
were kinda nerdy.
2. What inspires you the most?
What inspires us most are the real life stories with all the love, laughter, tears, fear, beauty and happiness. Especially our own little family life with our little sunshine Malia, the most inspiring person in the world. She shows us the beauty in small things. Looking at her when she wakes up with a smile, see her explore the world with kids eyes and excitement, see her eyes filled with love and happiness is the best thing we could ever imagine. Next to family and friends, we find inspiration in the nature. A beautiful scenery in a beautiful light makes our hearts jump. Business wise, we get inspired by people who are successful hustling.
3. What do you like to do, if you are not behind the camera?
Hanging out with family and friends, eat, drink, travel, explore, paddle, walking at a beach, read, educate ourselves, sports,…and talk 😉
4. Where was the best location you’ve been so far?
Thats a difficult question, because there are so many different beautiful places around the world and for us we live in on of the most beautiful spots we can imagine. But we really are south east Asia fans and we love India. There are stunning sceneries and amazing colors all over the place. Another favorite location is where we got married, in New Zealand. Such a magical country.
5. Which equipment do you use mainly?
we use Canon. 5d MkIV, 35 mm, 50mm, 85mm, 24mm and ts-e24
6. Do you have any tips to direct your couples how to pose?
There is no general recipe for a couple shoot, but we always try to let them feel comfortable with them and us. We let them do things which they do in general, like walking or sitting together, holding hands and chatting. We try to avoid exact poses because mostly it does not look very natural. Sometimes we try to get them do film scenes with lot of movement in it. Giving some advices help to direct a little bit for sure. It always depends on the couple as well. Like: “tell your partner 3 things you fell in love at the first place.“ „think back to your first kiss, get closer, but don’t kiss.“ „kiss places in her/his face you never kissed before“, or if they are goofy and fun people let them tickle, fight, catching each other. What always works is playing music. Bring your phone, ask (we do this in previous mail contact) for their favorite song, let them dance, look at each other…you will get a lot of emotions out of this situations. And with every couple a different one. let them go to their happy place together and you will see their love in your images 🙂
7. What is your favourite life quote?
Home is wherever i´m with you.
8. What would you do now, if you hadn‘t become a photographer?
Difficult to say. I (C) always wanted to do something creative. I am a hairdresser, a make up artist and i really love styling and interior. I guess i would have done something in between 🙂
Ingo: Hard to say what I would do if not photography because it has been photography what brought us into self-employment in the first place. I’m very sure I would be entrepreneur with something else since i love being my own boss and could not imagine to go back to work for someone else again.
THANK YOU CARMEN AND INGO!
