Maria and Linda are two wedding photographers from Germany.
Thanks for taking the time and answering our questions!
1. When and how did you start with Photography?
We got to know each other through photography and we already took photos together during our school time. After graduation, we did not take a single picture for a couple of years.
We quickly realized that we were not happy with the jobs we were doing, which is why we started studying social works. During our time at Uni we started grabbing our cameras to take pictures again more often. We had so much fun to shoot with friends and couples and so we decided to start our own business in 2016.
2. What inspires you the most?
We love to travel and to gain new experiences. Every journey inspires and motivates us and leaves us with a lot of wonderful memories. We also try to organize shootings with some couples on every trip. Every couple has a unique life and love story to tell, which helps us to stay creative. But we also draw a lot of inspiration from movies. We learned a lot about image building and story telling.
3. What do you like to do, if you are not behind the camera?
As we mentioned, we love travelling, being outdoors and getting to know different people and cultures. When we are not attached at each others hip like Siamese twins, we love biking or hiking in the mountains, camping or going on road trips. Sometimes we try out some new things like carving, pottery and tatooing, but we also like to just stay on our couch and chill.
4. Where was the best location you’ve been so far?
5. Which equipment do you use mainly?
We both use a Canon 5d Mark iii and mainly the Sigma 35mm Lens.
6. Do you have any tips to direct your couples how to pose?
At the beginning we always try to get to know the couple, to find out how they usually react and behave in certain situations. We talk a lot, try to make them dance, cuddle and laugh – to create an atmosphere that is relaxed and natural rather than staged. The most important thing is, that they have fun and feel comfortable. Sometimes we offer them some beer to make them feel more relaxed and yeah, that’s it.
7. What is your favourite life quote?
Our all-time favourite is a quote from Oscar Wilde: „Everything is going to be fine in the end. If it´s not fine it´s not the end.“
8. What would you do now, if you hadn‘t become a photographer?
As we mentioned, we studied social works and we always loved to work with people. So we would probably work as coaches or consultants. But luckily we quickly found out for ourselves, that we are a perfect team and that we would like to start our own business and become self-employed.
9. How do you handle pressure situations like weddings or difficult clients?
Behind the scenes we often are a bit too hysterical or even feel insecure sometimes. The best way to stay calm in those situations is to build a good connection to the bride and groom, months before their actual wedding day. We always stay in contact with our clients and try to get to know them very well. We also want them to get to know us and we are honest at all times. It always reduces the pressure on both sides. And when the big day has arrived our mantra is: Stay calm, drink a glass of wine and always try to talk to the guests.
Our advice for handling difficult clients: Just listen. Listen to their problems and needs and try to find a solution together – being respectful is important. Also be open-minded and friendly. There is always a way to solve a problem. And keep in mind, if you don´t want to, you don`t have to see them again.
And in case you forget all your principles, always remember our favourite quote:
„Everything is going to be fine in the end. If it´s not fine it´s not the end.“
THANK YOU MARIA & LINDA!
