"I love photography because the images we create are timeless. A camera allows us to freeze time, and then go back to that moment whenever we want, reliving the feelings, emotions and love that we felt at that given moment. It is the only true time machine."
Cason and Jesse’s sunrise engagement shoot was absolutely one of my all time favorite shoots to date! They are good friends who used to live on island and my wife and I will be photographing their wedding next year on St. John. I met these lovers just before sunrise up at a beautiful overlook and after catching up for a bit, I turned on some music and we started the session (music for a shoot is a must!). The mindset for this shoot, as always, was to document the authentic love that a couple has for each other with the least amount of intervention on my part. I always try to let my couples just be, giving them little prompts to provoke movement, laughter, and get natural reactions rather than posing them. After the sun rose over the island, we took a short hike down to the beach, and got in the water. As a scuba instructor, I am very passionate about the ocean, and love when my couples are down to not only adventure, but also want to shoot in and under the water. It takes a whole lot of determination, patience, and especially trust between the couple and myself when shooting underwater, I promise you it is not easy! These two did such an incredible job, remained relaxed, and allowed my vision come to life in these underwater images. I am extremely proud of these photos and so happy that they love them dearly.
